Computer tablets for Education
As you are reading this article online, you do not need an explanation about how convenient and accessible information has become, with the use of computers, tablets and smart phones.
You may remember the old days, when one had to listen to the radio or television, in order to get the weather forecast for the day. It would determine whether you left your home with an umbrella, a sweater, or in shorts. With the internet, we are no longer tied down to waiting for information scheduled by someone else. We can now access information at our fingertips.

Some years ago, a generous and concerned friend, and her husband, went into debt trying to send books to a school in Kenya, Africa. I too debated; on how to best cheaply send thousands of used books to schools in Africa, but was intimidated by the magnitude of shipping costs!
Books are heavy. They need to be protected from damp.
When my nephews attended public schools in Zimbabwe, when they did NOT feel like participating in class, they simply told a teacher that they forgot or lost their pen, pencil, or notebook.
Classrooms at their schools did not have educational supplies to hand out to students. Therefore my smart nephews were able to sit at their desks and simply observe class, without taking any notes (since they “forgot” their writing materials), having limited participation in class.

Students study at their own pace.
There are apps where thousands of books are made available instantly.
People can learn about practically anything one needs or wants to learn.
And its economical!
Knowledge is information that can used FOREVER, and continue to be built upon.
Knowledge equips one with the mental tools needed to navigate the world, as well as bring about change in lives or communities, when change is needed.
Knowledge has power and tangible results! Making computers and educational tablets available to communities that otherwise would not have access to them, empowers students to CREATE and problem solve within their communities.
Over time, communities likely will improve their qualities of living. By helping one, you'll be helping many!
